About Partisla

How Partisla Jiu Jitsu Maastricht came to be — and the community that keeps it moving forward.

History

Founded in 2017

The school was founded in 2017 by Greg Lacle, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Harold Harder, who personally received his blue belt from Rickson Gracie.

Lacle’s journey into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was preceded by decades of experience in Kyokushin karate and Aikido, in which he also taught groups including military personnel. He later transitioned to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which he considers the most complete martial art.

In 2019 Greg founded a Caribbean branch and is active in Aruba, though he remains involved with the main location in Maastricht.

Partisla Early Days

The club began in the summer with outdoor sessions on mats. As the group grew, training moved into a proper gym. It offered more space and better conditions, while preserving the same spirit and atmosphere.

Carrying the Club Forward

When Greg expanded moved to Aruba, the successors in Maastricht were still at the beginning of their own BJJ journey as white belts. Despite their limited experience at the time, they took responsibility for preserving the school’s philosophy and identity. Their shared commitment ensured that its core values remained firmly rooted in Maastricht and continue to guide the school today.

Guardians of the philosophy

As a member of the EGJJF, we follow its curriculum to preserve the fundamental principles of Jiu-Jitsu that can sometimes be lost in the evolution of the modern game. These principles remain at the core of how we train and teach.

Harold, president of the EGJJF, plays an important role in safeguarding this philosophy and ensuring that the technical foundation and original values of Jiu-Jitsu are passed on to future generations.

Overcoming adversity

The years that followed brought significant challenges, including the mandatory, prolonged closure during the COVID-19 pandemic and the search for the right instructor, among others. Partisla endured these difficult periods through the strong bond and dedication of its community, together with the creativity and perseverance of its founders. These experiences ultimately strengthened the school and laid the foundation for its continued growth
